Oglethorpe Speedway Park would like to announce Mr. Jimmy Morris as the Chief Steward for the 2016 season; this follows in wake of Faron Jenkins retirement after the 2015 season. “After interviewing potential candidates for the position, we feel Jimmy is the best man for the job” commented Darlene Nerich, Oglethorpe Speedway’s Office Manger.
Jimmy is a native of Savannah, GA where he was born and a graduate of Effingham County High School. Although he is now employed by Gulfstream Aerospace, Jimmy grew up in the automotive industry, working at various automotive repair shops in the local area. He also taught Automotive Shop at South Effingham High School from 2008 until 2012 when he also was the director of the Skills USA program in Effingham County.
Jimmy has an extensive background in stock car racing dating back to 1983 when he crewed for his older brother’s race team. Jimmy’s own racing career started in 1992 with the Enduro Series at Oglethorpe Speedway Park after which he raced in the Mini Stock, Pure Stock and Street/Super Street divisions. Mr. Morris has won a Late Model Championship at Screven Motor Speedway (2005) driving for owner Keith Tyler and an Enduro Championship at Golden Isle Speedway (2014).
In 2008 Jimmy took time off from racing and crewing for others to be the flagman at Oglethorpe Speedway Park he also became the Chief Steward at Pineora Kartway the same year. He stayed at Pineora until 2011 when he was asked to join the officiating team at Gamecock Speedway as chief steward. In 2014 Jimmy took the position as Technical Inspector for the Southern Outlaw Dirt Series and moved up to Chief Steward/Race Director for the series in 2015 touring track in Georgia and South Carolina. “ I look forward to a great season as the Race Director for Oglethorpe Speedway Park in 2016” says Jimmy Morris. DIRECTIONS TO OGLETHORPE SPEEDWAY PARK from I-95 and I-16:
From I-95: Take Exit 102—US Highway 80 (Pooler).
Turn East towards Savannah on US Highway 80, three miles on right Oglethorpe Speedway Park Sign.
From I-16: Take Exit 160—Highway 307 (Dean Forest Road)
Turn North and follow until you reach the first traffic light at US Hwy 80; turn Left onto US Hwy 80.
You will see the Oglethorpe Speedway Park Sign on your left in about 1/2 mile.
PLEASE NOTE: Coolers must be 12″ x 12″ or smaller and NO GLASS BOTTLES.
OSP has twenty (20) campsites with water, electric and sewer hook-ups.The campground is located just off of turn four behind the main grandstand. Charges for the campsites are $30 for the first day and $15 for each additional day
OSP also allows primitive camping at some locations on speedway property. There is no charge for primitive camping.
All campers must have an OSP camping permit. These permits can be obtained by stopping in at the speedway offices.
